What is STEAR?
The State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR) is a free, voluntary program designed to help local emergency planners identify and assist residents who may need extra help during emergencies or disasters. STEAR is intended for individuals with access or functional needs, including older adults, people with disabilities, those who require medical support, individuals with limited transportation, and others who may face challenges evacuating or sheltering safely. By registering, residents provide critical information that can help emergency management officials plan more effectively and prioritize assistance before, during, and after an emergency.
While registering with STEAR does not guarantee emergency services, it plays an important role in preparedness and response efforts in San Patricio County. Information in the registry is shared securely with local emergency management, first responders, and community organizations to support disaster planning and coordination. Residents are encouraged to update their STEAR information annually or whenever their situation changes, helping ensure the most accurate data is available when it matters most.
